About

Grey Dog Books was set up by Scottish crime author Ed James during the Covid lockdowns as a way of publishing his own fiction. He'd been doing that successfully since 2012, but he always wanted to have an imprint of his own. The real reason was he needed to have a trademark to get the snazzy A+ content on Amazon pages. He was sitting in his dining room next to his dog, Misty (who sadly passed away in 2021), a blue greyhound, and the trademark came from that.

Since that initial setup, he's published more of his own novels, notably the DI Rob Marshall books. Grey Dog Books also became his own bookshop, using the Shopify service to hook into Bookvault, who print the gorgeous paperbacks one by one.

As well as that, he successfully republished the McGregor & Drummond series by Neil Broadfoot in 2024, with more in the series to come in 2026, and is now republishing books by Allan Guthrie, SJI Holliday and others – watch this space for news of new signings.

Fore more about Ed, check his website at www.edjamesauthor.co.uk – it'll no doubt be out of date as even he can't keep up with his output.
